This is because; only few of them are getting internet traffic. Primary search
engines which are getting about 90% of all the search traffic are Google,
Altavista, Yahoo, Fast, Lycos, Alltheweb and Inktomi. Before submitting your
website to any search engines, please check that have you done

Same is the case with directories. There are
only few internet online directories which are given importance by search
engines as well as by people. Most important directories include Yahoo
directory, ODP, Zeal, Looksmart and About. If your website get listed in most of
these directories then you could be on your way to success because it would
automatically boost your search engines ranking. Before submitting to any of the
directories please check

accepted.

engines where your website must be indexed before you can expect thousands of
visitors.
Google,
The King
Google is the most favorite search engine of
this internet world. It receives millions of visitors beyond our imagination.
Currently it has eight billion pages in its index and hunting for more. If your
website is well optimized, after getting indexed, you can get hundreds and
thousands of visitors per week.
Usually you need to submit to Google just
once and only your homepage because Google crawler would automatically index all
of the other pages. Listen, Google first index only homepage of your website and
later about after 1 month, it indexes all of your other WebPages. So be cool.

THE OPEN DIRECTORY PROJECT
ODP is a web directory of Internet resources. A web directory
is something akin to a cross between a huge reference library and the yellow
pages. The directory is hierarchically arranged by subject - from broad to
specific. The ODP is maintained by community editors who evaluate sites for
inclusion in the directory. They are our experts, and all submissions are
subject to editor evaluation. We aren't a search engine and pride ourselves on
being highly selective. We don't accept all sites, so please don't take it
personally should your site not be accepted."
Submit a site if
a site has not been listed within three weeks, you may submit it again.

All our user-submitted Web content is maintained by the
Open Directory Project which is run by
a staff of volunteer editors who choose to evaluate and classify Web sites in
one or more categories. The editor exercises the option of choosing to add a
site, moving sites between categories and creating new sites.
Please note that if your site is accepted, it will also appear
on other sites that use the Open Directory, such as Netscape, Lycos and Hotbot,
as well as within AOL Search.

popular and important directory on the net accounting for at least half of all
traffic. When marketing your commercial site you can't go wrong by using this
service first.

Yahoo! always distinguishes between commercial and
non-commercial sites. If you're suggesting a site that is in any way
commercial--it sells something, promotes goods and services, or promotes a
company that sells goods and services--then the site belongs somewhere in the
