Internet directories play an important role in your website rankings. First let me explain you about directories. Directories contain large amount of links with description in categorized way. Many people find their required website by searching the directory or by navigating through different categories. 

You cannot expect lot of direct traffic from online directories however; these directories can indirectly send you much more traffic than your imagination. Sometimes you are informed about your website is rejected or accepted and sometimes not. So it is better you stick to them, if not included then resubmit your website after 4 weeks and wait again. Don’t try to resubmit again and again because it could your website get banned to get listed. If your website is already submitted then it is always advisable to not to try to submit separate pages to different categories.

 Before submitting I would like to advice you that you must read directories guidelines so that you can easily eliminate mistakes as most people do and believe me, it can save lot of your time.  Dmoz is a second of the most popular directory on the internet. It is edited by about 68,000 volunteers and this number is still growing. If your site gets listed in Dmoz then it reduces your days of works because once your site is in then search engines would give you more importance, especially Google.  Then the next benefit that you are going to get is your link would soon appear in many directories gradually because many other high ranked directories use data of Dmoz directory so you would also appear in their listings. Search engines then would be going to count your website having more inbound links, better rankings. The last, you will be included in Google’s own directory.

 I would like to advice you that you must read the instruction from Dmoz own website if you want to get listed with more number of chances. Click on Submission Guidelines to know about the correct procedure for Dmoz. There are more chances that your website is going to accepted. Usually it is easier to get accepted to Dmoz than Yahoo and especially if you have nice contents. For more number of chances to get accepted in Dmoz or in any directory, be specific. I mean you have to drill down more and more to get the accurate category for your website.

 After submitting to these two major directories and in waiting periods, try to submit your website to smaller directories. My major trick, which I use to get indexed quickly in search engine especially Google, is to submit your website first to directories instead of search engines and I usually get indexed in search engines in my first week of arrival and I am sure that you will be amazed to know that. This is the best way to get indexed soon.
